1970s
Company founder, Bill Milliken, ponders future plans for Milliken Forestry Company. Smythe McCrady and Angus Lafaye join the staff.
1980s
The firm expands its services and geographic reach, supporting private landowners, management of large recreational properties, and institutional clients across the Southeast with professional forest management and valuation services.
1990s
In 1992, Bill Milliken retired, and Angus Lafaye and Smyth McCrady set up a new management team. Milliken grows its technical capabilities, adding timber appraisal, inventory, GIS mapping, endangered species, and portfolio-level advisory services to support increasingly complex landholdings.
1995
Lamar Comalander, Warren Duncan, and Bill Milliken gather with clients.
2000
Developed working relationships with family offices to develop timberland investments that provided property value increase, annual income, and recreational potential.
2005
Angus Lafaye, President of Milliken Forestry Company, becomes Chairman of the Board of the South Carolina Forestry Association. Milliken Forestry Company was active and a leader in forestry organizations, including the South Carolina Forestry Association, the Association of Consulting Foresters, and the Society of American Foresters.
2008
Lamar Comalander serves as President of Milliken Forestry Company.
2010
The firm deepens its work in certification, sustainability, and conservation planning, helping clients meet evolving market, regulatory, and environmental expectations.
2021
Milliken Advisors (the consulting arm) provides forest certification services (FSC, SFI, ATFS, PEFC).
2022
Rebranded as Milliken Advisors, marking a new era that adds nature-based solutions (e.g., carbon, conservation easements) to traditional forest management, according to Milliken Advisors.
2024
Under the leadership of Trip Chavis, Milliken Advisors establishes the Forest Landowners Advocacy Guild to represent forest landowners in current and future markets. As timber demand declined with the closing of paper mills and sawmills, Milliken recognized a lack of representation.
